Protest Israeli Apartheid! Protest Israeli Col. Dr Eran Lerman! Sunday 20th August

Dear friends of Palestine
On Sunday 20th August, Friends of Palestine WA will hold a protest outside a meeting organised by the Zionist lobby group, Australia Israel Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC). The meeting features guest speakers Israeli Defence Force Reserve Colonel Dr Eran Lerman and federal Labor MP Dr Anne Aly. The protest will commence at 4.30pm outside Carmel School, 123 Cresswell Rd, Dianella.
Dr Eran Lerman is a Senior Research Associate with Israeli think-tank the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and a former member of the Israel Prime Minister’s National Security Council. Lerman has held senior posts in IDF Military Intelligence for over 20 years and has also served as Israel director of the American Jewish Committee. Dr Lerman supports ongoing settlement construction and advocates the “unification” of Jerusalem under Israeli control. In February last year, Dr Lerman told the Jerusalem Post:

“Israel should continue to build in every part of [Jerusalem]. Moreover, it should encourage Jews settling in the area near and within the so-called Holy Basin. Creating facts on the ground signals determination and makes division of the city more difficult. Generally, Israel should make every effort to separate the issue of Jerusalem from the issue of settlements in the West Bank, even if this requires a partial freeze in the settlement activity in Judea and Samaria. Jerusalem is much more important than isolated Jewish settlements in the West Bank.”

Friends of Palestine WA calls on supporters to join us in protesting Dr Lerman’s efforts to normalise Israeli apartheid and justify Israeli settlement building. FOPWA calls on Labor MP Anne Aly to decline to speak at this event. Last November, Dr Aly Aly, , who really participated in an AIJAC-organised study tour to Israel, was one of fifty Australian parliamentarians that signed an APAN-initiated statement calling for fair treatment of Palestinian children.
